Field Hockey

Program Overview

Our mission is to provide year round field hockey training for the beginner to the college bound athlete.  Ballyhoo field hockey is the training ground for the York areas most talented field hockey players.  Our club will stress field hockey fundamentals, situational play, individual skill development and team play as well as provide high level training for those who intend on pursuing a collegiate field hockey career.  We will compete in both indoor and outdoor regional, and national qualifying tournaments.  Our club program will run from November – July for the active playing season.  Players who participate in the full season program will attend 5 indoor and 5 outdoor tournaments.

We are continually building competitive travel programs in the following age groups:  U12, U14, U16, U19

2017 Summer Camps

Elementary Hockey, Grades K – 5: Designed to allow young players to be introduced to the game at the basic fundamental level.  Emphasis will be placed on basic rules, proper grip and posture, ball and stick control, tackling, receiving/trapping skills, passing and basic team concepts. Sticks provided if needed.

Camp will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from  June 27-August 3rd,  9:00 am – 10:30 am.

 

Hockey 101, Grades 6 – 8 : Designed for junior high and beginner players to work on and improve their basic fundamental skills. Passing, shooting, attacking, defending, fundamental stick skills and basic game concepts will be drilled each session.

Camp will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from  June 27-August 3rd , 10:30 am -12:00 pm.

 

Hockey 301, Grades 9 – 12 : Designed for players who wish to play at the collegiate level. Players should have varsity experience and a strong desire to improve their skills and level of intensity. Players will meet three times per week and will address 1 vs. 1 offensive and defensive skills and advanced game concepts.

Camp will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from June 27-August 3, 1:00 pm -2:30 pm.

Collegiate Series

The Ballyhoo Sports Academy’s Field Hockey Collegiate Series is designed to offer an offseason training program for girls in grades 7-12. It is intended to provide high quality instruction and competition. The Academy will focus on innovative stick work and shooting sessions, defensive strategies and skills as well as competitive, small game situations. Along with the physical aspect of training, our specialized staff will provide valuable instruction on strength and conditioning, as well as, nutrition. Come enjoy a great day packed with information and skills to help you take your game to the next level!

Who: Grades 7-12

When: Mondays – June 19, June 26, July 10 from 9 am – 4 pm. Please bring a lunch and a drink.

Where: Heritage Hills Athletic Club

Fee:  One Session – $150 ($90 for Ballyhoo Athletes)

All Three Sessions – $500 ($350 for Ballyhoo Athletes)

Tournaments

As part of the registration fee, each Ballyhoo Academy Field hockey Team is authorized for a minimum of 10 tournaments.  Teams may select to play in indoor tournaments through the winter months provided the team pays the additional costs of the tournaments through Ballyhoo Sports.  Teams may also elect to play in additional tournaments provided the tournament costs for the additional tournaments are paid for by the team through Ballyhoo Sports.

The staff of Ballyhoo Sports Academy reserves the rights to approve all team tournaments.  This is to ensure that teams are playing in the proper tournaments for the benefit of the players.

Insurance/Sanctioning Body

Each Ballyhoo Academy Field Hockey player must also join USA field hockey and will be covered by USA field hockey insurance.

Indoor Facilities and Practices

Each Ballyhoo Academy Field Hockey Team will receive 2  indoor practice sessions per week during the winter.  The practices may be held at the heritage hills athletic club or Backyard University on the turf.  All Ballyhoo indoor practice scheduling is at the discretion of Ballyhoo Sports Academy.

Classification of Teams and Assignment of Players

Ballyhoo Sports Academy Staff will work together with team coaching staffs to insure that the team is properly classified and that the players on any respective team are playing on the appropriately classified team. Placing athletes on the appropriately classified teams insures equal playing time for all athletes.

Picture Program

Ballyhoo Sports Academy will provide opportunities for team and individual picture sales.

Heritage Hills Membership and Passport to Perks Program

Ballyhoo Sports Academy will provide each player as part of their registration fee, a full year heritage hills membership.  Parents and siblings are offered a discounted membership to heritage hills.

Passport to perks package includes discounts on a wide variety of recreation, service and food offerings

  • 25% on recreation including golf, mini golf and snow tubing
  • 20% on all services, spa services and retail, golf instruction and fitness program
  • 15% on all food when dining at any of our restaurants

Ballyhoo Sports Academy maintains a constant spirit wear store online, available to all participants and families.

Player Selection and Team Assignment

We select players based on skill, performance, attitude and attendance. Our goal is to develop individual skills within the context of the team so that each player is prepared to play at the appropriate level in the program as well as preparing you to play at the collegiate level. A player’s attitude toward the club, coaches and their teammates is regarded highly in our selection and retention process.

Our club is in good standing with USA Field Hockey thus all players will be covered by insurance once they are a member of USA Field Hockey.
